I Don’t like Ike

Hurricane Ike made landfall as a strong Category 2 just after 2:00 am September 13.

Its impact on the energy sector is anything but good.  So far, 2,383,062 Texans have been left without power.

Nearly all of the pre-hurricane crude oil and natural gas production has been temporarily shut-in.  Crude oil production is off 97.5%, down approximately 1.267 billion barrels/day.  Natural gas production has dropped from 7,400 MMCF/day to 6,985 MMCF/day, or 94.4%.

Fourteen Texas refineries are shut down.  These refineries located in the Port Arthur, Houston/Texas City, and Corpus Christi regions have a total operable capacity of 3.8 million b/d.
