Thanks, Tony
July 13, 2008
This weekend America lost the consummate political professional. Tony Snow was a political commentator, television news anchor, syndicated columnist, radio host, Presidential speechwriter and Presidential spokesperson that over the span of three decades became a rare Washington gem.
We became friends as young turks in the administration of President George H. W. Bush. There were the conversations about affirmative action, parental choice, what to do in the aftermath of the L.A. riots, etc. Meals at the Old Ebbitts Grill. Drinks at the Hawk and Dove. Jazz and R&B at Mister Henry’s.
But I will remember him most for his friendship and support during the most personally and professionally challenging time of my life. When the sharks were swimming around smelling my blood in the water Tony was there with his political acumen, insight, humor and most of all, humanity.
Over the years, I’ve become convinced he never realized how much his support meant to me. I do.
Thanks, Tony for your friendship. You’ll be missed.
